The Crusader SPG is a Tier 2 British self propelled gun.

Background Story

The Crusader SPG is a partially fake vehicle. It is based on the Crusader 5.5-in (140 mm) SPG but with the gun changed to a 6 pdr. (57 mm) by Greg the inconsistent man.

The 5.5-in SPG was a SPG built on the Crusader chassis, developed after the end of WWII. Work on the project was discontinued at the prototype stage in 1948. It never entered mass production nor saw service.

Playstyle

This tank is not very liked and is an underrated tank, it makes sense as the gun can only face backwards in-game, making it difficult to use in any role. It has good penetration, decent DPM, less than average DPS but a very quick reload speed.

This tank should be played as a sniper most of the time, you should face your gun towards the enemy behind cover and snipe from 200-400 m away, use your top speed to get away if needed. This tank has very poor armor but a good reload speed, so try to get as many hits as possible before getting spotted or shot at.

You can also bait people into chasing you, since your gun is facing backwards at all times and your reload speed is fast, you can kill tanks of similar tier quickly and effectively. The only problem is that some people will not take the bait.

Pros

  • Excellent reload speed.
  • Decent forward and reverse speeds.
  • Extremely good DPM once, at Crew Level 18, you would have over 2,000 DPM.

Cons

  • Engaging targets will be a challenge since your gun is facing the opposite direction of your opponents.
  • Mediocre armor for Tier 2.
  • Limited gun traverse.

Trivia

  • Although the gun is shown to be facing forward in the garage, it actually faces the opposite direction.
    • The gun also faces forward when spawning in, but quickly turns to face the rear.
      • Since the gun does not start facing backwards, you could have the gun face forward for longer by quickly locking it in place (only possible on PC by holding C).
  • It cannot turn its gun to the right (facing backwards) due to the player being in the way.
    • The traverse limitations of the gun also depend on the size of the player.
  • This is one of the few tanks where the player is not in the commander's position.
  • Due to the gun shield that the 6 pdr. has, the driver cannot see forward without moving.
    • This was not a problem with the original, with its 5.5 in gun, as it did not have a gun shield.
