Pz.Kpfw. V Ausf G "Cuckoo"

The Pz.Kpfw. V Ausf G "Cuckoo" is a Tier 3 British premium tank that was added alongside the GAZ-MM (72-K) in the New Years update.

Backorder Story

During the Allied invasion of Holland/Netherlands during Operation Market Garden in 1944, the British 6th Guards Tank Brigade had suffered heavy losses from constant engagements against German Panther tanks. As a result, the brigade attempted to create a Panther platoon consisting of recovered Panther tanks from the Falaise Gap in France.

The project of making a Panther platoon was later cancelled before the "Cuckoo" was found.

However, on the 13th of October on 1944, British infantry South of Overloon in France discovered an abandoned, but operational, Panther tank left inside a barn. Somebody remembered about the project and they decided to adopt it into their brigade, it was repainted in olive drab and had stars painted onto the side. During the winter it would be painted white.

All the command tanks in their brigade were named after birds, so they decided to name this Panther the "Cuckoo", it was a fitting name because a Cuckoo is a bird that moves into another one's nest.

Playstyle

The playstyle of the Pz.Kpfw. V Ausf. G "Cuckoo" is the same as the Pz.Kpfw. V Ausf D.

Pros

Has balanced, thick armor for a Tier 3 tank.
Well-balanced acceleration speed and top speed.
Great DPM for its tier.
Excellent penetration for its tier, even beating some Tier 4 tanks.

Cons

Sluggish reverse speed at 3 km/h.
Response time with other tanks may be slowed due to the sluggish turret rotation.

Trivia

As of its release, the Cuckoo is the first and only premium tank under Great Britain.
The turret in-game is wrong as it is a Panther Ausf D turret and not a Panther Ausf G turret.
It is the only Panther Ausf G in the game.
