The T110E5 is a tier 6 American heavy tank.

Background Story

During the early 1950s, the US was looking for better heavy tanks, which could replace the M103, which wasn't in service yet. In June of 1954, Detroit Arsenal held a conference, where they would brainstorm heavy tank ideas. The conditions for the new tank were that a prototype was to be finished in two years, and that it could fit in the Berne International Clearance Diagram, a code for standardization of rail tunnels, established in 1913.[1][2]

The conference produced a few tank designs, of which most notable are TS-2, TS-5, TS-6, and TS-31 (“TS”, for “Tracked vehicle Short development”). The TS-31 design was eventually chosen, with production being handed over to Chrysler, with the tank being given the designation “120mm gun tank T110”.[1][2]

The T110 project would have six drafts, which weren't improvements over the former, but competing designs, by Detroit Arsenal, and Chrysler. The first five drafts were all casemates. The sixth draft, by Chrysler, had a conventional rotating turret. Unfortunately, by the the sixth draft came, the M103 already proved a vastly better tank. All T110 drafts also didn't do one of their original goals: fitting in the Berne International Clearance Diagram. Due to these reasons (primarily due to the first one), the project was canceled, shortly after the M103 started production in 1957.[1][2]

Playstyle

The T110E5 is an overall excellent tank with good armor and weaponry that can be used almost universally. In DM, its thick armor and powerful gun make it a good frontline brawler, much like the Conqueror. Its frontal armor is hard to penetrate for many tanks and its gun can deal large amounts of damage, but it may require help to protect it from flanking enemy tanks.

In KoTH and LS, it's less useful due to its average speed and reduced health, but is still a good tank to use for defending the base from enemies. With support, it will make short work of enemy tanks, even Tier 6 units.

The T110E5 performs best in semi-open maps such as Belgium and Fulda Gap. Its slow top speed and wide profile make it difficult or impossible to operate in dense areas like the villages in French Countryside and Sweden. Similarly, those same aspects also make the T110E5 an easy target for snipers in maps that offer little or no cover, such as Maginot Line and Open Spaces.

Like all other vehicles, the tank also comes with downsides. When in combat, T110E5 players will tend to engage high tiers that can easily penetrate their armor, so they must respond to enemy engagements with teammates as support. In close quarters combat, a T110E5 user with a low crew level will have a slow reload speed that will not be reliable enough to respond in quick situations with enemies, most likely ending in the player getting killed. The T110E5's slow speed and turret can be weak to fast tanks that can outmaneuver it, such as the Leopard 1. Close-range "circle-jerking" can quickly whittle down a T110E5's health if it is alone and outnumbered. However, teammates dying as collateral damage should be expected as the T110E5 may fire back in retaliation and severely damage or kill one of the tanks circling it.

Pros

  • Comes equipped with a powerful large-caliber gun that can cause large amounts of damage.
  • Excellent penetration, it is the second highest in the game and matches up with the T28 and T28 Prototype.
  • Thick and balanced all-around armor that many tanks will have trouble penetrating frontally.
  • Fairly high amount of hit points for a high tier.
  • Very good reverse speed for a heavy tank of up to 17 km/h.

Cons

  • Below average reload speed, due to it's 120mm gun.
  • Extremely sluggish maneuverability.
  • Maximum possible DPM with a Crew Level of 20 only reaches 1875 which is awful for a tier 6.
  • Rather loud reloading sound, can give away your position.
  • The armor can still be easily penetrated by most Tier 5s and 6s.

Weakspots

When encountering a T110E5, a player may find difficulties penetrating its armor. Fortunately, the tank has a few weakspots than can be used to a player's advantage

Note: The image only shows weakspots for when the T110E5 is facing directly at the player. The tank used to find these weakspots is the T-62A, so the same weakspots may not apply to other tanks.

Hull

The hull of the T110E5 is mostly impenetrable, although it can be penetrated at the areas where the rounded front hull makes a flat area to the direction of the player's tank. However, penetrating this would require atleast 254mm of penetration value to get through it.

Turret

The turret of the T110E5 is impenetrable from the front due to its angles, shooting at it is not recommended.

Mantlet

A majority of the square mantlet is impenetrable due to its angles, however a small circle near the gun on the mantlet can be seen and can be penetrated if there is enough penetration value.

Real Life Trivia

  • The designation "T110E5" is fictional, made up by Wargaming for World of Tanks. In reality, it never had a name. There isn't particularly any reason that the T110E5 is not named "T110E6" (as it's the sixth draft). (Full discussion over this can be found in the comments of this article).
